September was a busy month for Mediolanum International Funds in the European media. Coverage was led by Niall Scanlon’s analysis of the ECB’s September meeting, alongside commentary on the Bank of Japan, German pension reform and the changing role of AI in portfolio management. Here are some of the key stories we featured in.
Spain
The main story of the month was the outlook for European interest rates. Fixed Income Portfolio Manager Niall Scanlon’s analysis of the ECB decision was carried widely across Spanish financial and national media as investors assessed whether a further 25-basis-point increase would take policy into restrictive territory. The coverage included Capital, The Objective and Notimérica, alongside further pickup in Europa Press, Forbes, Expansión, La Razón, finect.com, Bolsamanía and Infobae.
The scale of the pickup reflected how central the ECB had become to the market conversation in September, with attention focused not only on the immediate decision but also on what another move could mean for the inflation outlook and the path of rates over the remainder of the year.
Germany
The same ECB analysis also travelled strongly in Germany. Niall’s preview, “EZB vor dem Zinsentscheid: Ist bei 2,5 Prozent Schluss?”, appeared in finanzwelt and was also carried by Finanz Nachrichten, Anleihencheck and Finanzen.net.
Portfolio Manager Cathal Gaffney added a second central-bank perspective. His Bank of Japan commentary argued that investors should not overestimate the likely pace of tightening and was published by Finanz Nachrichten and Anleihencheck.
Elsewhere, CEO Furio Pietribiasi contributed to a Fundview discussion on how AI is changing the skills required in portfolio management: “Wie verändert KI das Skillset im Portfoliomanagement? Experten diskutieren”. The article continued our wider focus on the ways technology can strengthen investment processes while keeping human judgement central.
German pension reform also remained in focus. Head of Business Development, Germany, Cor Dücker featured in two e-fundresearch articles looking at the proposed Altersvorsorgedepot: “Altersvorsorgedepot 2027: Das große Umschichten oder der ersehnte Wachstumsschub?” and “Woher das Geld fürs Altersvorsorgedepot kommen soll: Fünf Quellen”.
Ahead of DKM 2026 in Dortmund, Mediolanum also featured across German adviser media, including Finanz Nachrichten, Cash. Online, AssCompact and Pfefferminzia.
UK and Ireland
In the UK and Ireland, The DESK followed up on the expansion of our High Yield team with “Mediolanum taps Tapley”, covering Stephen Tapley’s appointment as Deputy Head of High Yield.
