Mediolanum Ireland recently hosted a private SnowDay in conjunction with Snowflake, bringing colleagues together for a focused session on the evolving role of data, artificial intelligence and analytics in asset management.
The event was designed to give Mediolanum’s business and technology teams, who are already at the forefront of Snowflake development in the asset management sector, a closer look at how other modern data platforms, particularly across different sectors, are reshaping the way organisations access, govern and use information. Sessions explored developments in Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud, the growing importance of unified data environments, and the practical ways in which AI can support better decision-making.
A core theme of the day was the need to connect innovation with real business use cases. The morning agenda combined a platform overview with presentations on Mediolanum’s own data journey from Thomas Galligan, Chief Data Officer, Barry Noonan, Chief Information Officer and Gary Thompson Head of Architecture & Analysis highlighting how a more integrated approach to data can help teams work more efficiently, improve consistency and create stronger foundations for analytics, reporting and future AI-enabled workflows.
Snowflake was represented by Nathan Attrell, Head of FS EMEA who explored how natural language interfaces and AI-assisted analytics are changing expectations around business intelligence. Rather than relying only on traditional reporting tools, teams are increasingly looking at ways to ask better questions of their data, find insights faster and make analytics more accessible to a wider range of colleagues.
Importantly, the discussion also reinforced that successful AI adoption depends on strong governance, clear definitions, and close collaboration between business and technology teams. Well-described data, consistent metrics, and appropriate human oversight remain essential to building trust in AI-supported outputs.
The session reflected a broader shift across the investment industry: data is no longer simply an operational input. It is becoming a strategic capability, helping firms improve research, risk analysis, reporting, and client-facing activity. For Mediolanum, SnowDay provided an opportunity to connect these themes to practical examples and to explore how emerging technology can support teams across the organisation.
The day concluded with a hands-on element focused on applying Snowflake and Mediolanum data capabilities to practical business challenges. This collaborative format helped bring together different perspectives from across the organisation and encouraged participants to think about how innovation can be translated into useful, scalable solutions.
SnowDay was ultimately a valuable opportunity to step back from day-to-day activity and consider how data and AI can support the next stage of business transformation. By combining external expertise, internal knowledge, and practical experimentation, the event reinforced the importance of collaboration in turning technology potential into business value.
“The strongest message from SnowDay was that AI value depends on trusted data, clear governance and collaboration between business and technology teams.”
